Split AC vs window AC: which should you buy?

Installation can decide the category
A split AC needs safe outdoor-unit placement, drainage, correct pipe routing and a sound wall. Long or poorly installed piping can affect cost and reliability. A window AC needs a structurally suitable opening and enough clearance for airflow.
Ask for an itemised installation quote covering stand, copper beyond the included length, drain pipe, core cutting, electrical work and old-unit removal.
Efficiency and comfort
Compare the actual BEE label and annual energy figure rather than assuming every split AC is efficient. Inverter split models dominate high-efficiency choices, but a correctly sized window model can still be practical for limited use.
For a bedroom, indoor noise and airflow control deserve extra weight. For occasional daytime use, the simpler installation may matter more.
Ownership and service
Window units provide direct service access but transmit more compressor sound and vibration into the room. Split units move that equipment outdoors, while adding refrigerant joints, piping and separate indoor-unit cleaning.
Brand service quality, warranty exclusions and local technician availability can outweigh a small difference in purchase price.
